Supporting Ukrainian Displaced People in a Time of Change

During April and May 2026, the Erasmus+ project Independent Hub: Digital Support for Displaced Ukrainian Citizens in the EU successfully organised a series of five online workshops for Ukrainian displaced people living in the Netherlands and Poland.

The workshops attracted more than 200 registered participants in total, demonstrating the continuing need for reliable, practical information as Ukrainian citizens navigate an increasingly complex legal and social environment in Europe.

Recent changes in national regulations, as well as ongoing discussions about the future of the EU Temporary Protection Directive, have created uncertainty for many displaced people. To address these concerns, legal experts, tax consultants, and migration specialists shared up-to-date information and answered participants’ questions during the workshops.

The topics included:

  • Legal options and residence pathways after the end of temporary protection;
  • Financial regulations and taxation for displaced Ukrainians;
  • Social benefits and subsidies under new national policies;
  • Access to healthcare and medical insurance systems in the Netherlands and Poland.

The workshops provided participants with practical guidance on their rights, obligations, and available support mechanisms. In addition to expert presentations, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their individual situations.

All workshop materials, including presentations, recordings, manuals, and additional resources, have been made freely available on the project website. These materials are designed to help displaced Ukrainians make informed decisions about their future and better understand the legal, financial, and social systems of their host countries.

The Independent Hub project also offers multilingual practical guides and an AI-powered chatbot that helps users find information about residence rights, employment, healthcare, education, taxation, and other everyday issues related to living in the European Union under temporary protection.

We would like to thank all participants, speakers, and partner organisations for their contribution to the success of these events. We remain committed to supporting displaced Ukrainians with accessible information, practical tools, and opportunities for learning and integration.
